Gravitas

First published in the Writers Victoria Writability Anthology ‘The Streets are Darker Without Me Here’

you

rumble

at my feet

tarring claws

inscribing imprints

a looming presence

moulding us like plastic

clay gravity the restless potter

that thumbs your supple creation

you wade tides warping flesh and space

sinking spines crumpling under compressed

time we stretch and squeeze at your stubborn

insistence the ever-controlling lover bending bodies

until all are distorted in your image the dosed infliction

whose intimacy unseals vacuumed lungs accelerating into

tunnel vision a grey scale the ringing soundtrack to our friction

light escapes you

I believe it is the only thing
